MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES
INTENT
Children at Elm Wood learn from the excellent La Jolie Ronde scheme of work. Our children are taught to develop an interest in languages and to enjoy singing along with and hearing French regularly. Children in Years 1 to 3 access French assemblies weekly, while children in Years 4-6 access this fortnightly in addition to their taught sessions.
The French curriculum taught at Elm Wood is carefully sequenced to cover the National Curriculum requirements and to progressively develop children’s skills in French through regular lessons. Through the La Jolie Ronde curriculum, children explore differences between French and English, as well as developing skills in all skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing), knowledge and vocabulary.
